Your Kickoff Team

Knowing these 3 simple rules will enable you to have a great kickoff team.

Other coaches thought I was crazy with my three rules until they tried them on their team.

Rule#1: Never kick the ball right down the middle.

Rule#2: Anyone can be your kickoff man.

Rule#3: The kickoff team is defense.

Who does the other team have set deep waiting for the kickoff?  In Youth Football , teams generally have one or two of their best players deep so why in the world would you want to kick the ball right to them?

Anyone can generally be your kickoff man. Since we never kick the ball right down the middle but to the right anyone and I mean anyone can do this. After he kicks the ball his area is straight down the middle of the field. Since there will be no wedge forming there is almost zero chance of a middle return.

Lastly, the Kickoff team is defense. Your best players should be on this team. Your minimum play players should not be on this team (maybe your kicker).

To review, don’t kick the ball down the middle, don’t sweat your kickoff man and the most important, your kickoff team is defense. Have the best players on this team.

So there you have it. By following these three simple rules you will have an effective kickoff team. For more information on special teams read the other articles on wwwcoachingfootballsecrets.com.
